Rental of Private Residence Not Allowed for Travel

The Institute has been notified by the State Accounting Office that the rental of a private residence is unallowable, and should not be considered as a lodging option by travelers. This would include properties available through online private rental services such as Air B&B, VRBO, HomeAway, etc.

We understand that on-line services that fall within this category are becoming standard practice for many travelers, and the cost of a private residence may in some cases be less than the cost of a conference hotel, however, utilization of a private residence is prohibited by Section 3.1 of the State Travel Policy.

Please ensure that your faculty, staff and students are aware of these changes.
